FOUR YOUNG UMPIRES TO DEBUT IN CARIBBEAN T20
Friday 17th December 2010

Four umpires will make their first appearances in the Caribbean Twenty20 when the tournament bowls off on January 10th in Antigua.

Trinidadian Joel Wilson, Barbadian Gregory Brathwaite, Guyanese Nigel Duguid and Kittitian Luther Kelly will have their first officiating duties in the Caribbean T20 after a highly commendable regional debut outing in the WICB 50 Over Tournament in October.

Wilson and Brathwaite will take charge of the opening game of the CT20 when Combined Campuses & Colleges face Windward Islands. The pair officiated in two Twenty20s between West Indies A and Pakistan A in November at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds in Antigua.

Kelly will have what could be a baptism of fire when he stands alongside ICC Elite Umpire Billy Doctrove in a likely heated mega clash between the star studded Jamaican side and reigning CT20 champion Guyana.

Duguid will share duties with Peter Nero the following night as Canada takes on Friends Provident t20 champion Hampshire Royals.

The other umpires appointed by the WICB are veterans Vincentian Goland Greaves and Jamaican Norman Malcolm.

Joel Wilson commented: “This will be my first televised tournament and I look forward to being put under that kind of scrutiny as it is part of the learning curve for me and my colleagues.”

“I have been umpiring for 15 years so I am extremely happy with the progress I have been making in the past 12 to 15 months,” Wilson added.

“I’m excited to be doing games with ICC Elite Panel umpire Billy Doctrove. I will be able to interact with someone who is at that level,” Wilson said.
