INDEPENDENCE SCHOOL WISH
Friday 7th October 2016

L back - R - Shelana George (Social Media Executive), Andrew Phillip, Patrice Simon (Digicel Commercial Director), John Mark, Troy Byrne (Marketing Communications Manager), Dornel Simon, Karen Carr-Michael, Sherwin Gardner.

In celebration of Antigua & Barbuda’s 35th Independence anniversary, Digicel’s Grant a Wish initiative is awarding one high school with much-needed funding of $6,000 towards a school development project.

To qualify for the funding, schools are asked to submit a video of no more than four minutes long or a written story via email on what they will do with the funding and how it will help with the sustainable development of their school. The competition is geared towards all secondary schools on the twin island state and some of the schools, who are listed as part of the school tour, have already expressed interest in participating (Clare Hall Secondary, Ottos Comprehensive High, Antigua Girls’ High, Pares Secondary, Princess Margaret High, Jennings Secondary and the All Saints Secondary Schools) and are now preparing their respective stories to be submitted to Digicel by October 26th 2016. The winning school will be decided by an internal panel of judges and announced on October 28th

“Supporting education and youth development is big on our agenda so we very excited to be helping to fund a project that will positively impact the well-being of students. Thank you to Sherwin Gardner and the Gospel Fest team. They too have contributed $1K to this project. Forms can be had from any Digicel store,” said Patrice Simon, Digicel’s Commercial Director.

“We are always looking for meaningful and practical ways to give back to our customers who welcomed us into their hearts when Digicel launched here over ten years ago. This is just one of the many ways we are saying thanks for their support and for making Digicel a part of Antigua and Barbuda’s journey and history.”

Digicel’s Grant a Wish initiative is being launched in conjunction with the Gospel Fest School Tour, of which Digicel is a main sponsor. The school tour starts Friday, October 7th, 2016, with the first stop at the Pares Secondary School, where Gospel sensation, Sherwin Gardner and friends will minister to the students in songs and give away tickets to the Gospel Fest concert on Sunday, October 30th, 2016.
