On November 3, Janice Sutherland, Commercial Manager for Digicel will join thousands of runners in the ING New York City Marathon to raise money for The Care Project based at Holberton Hospital. The New York City Marathon is one of the World’s Marathon Majors and covers all five New York Boroughs.

Janice is no stranger to long races; having completed a marathon in 2009 and countless half marathons she aims to gain a new personal best this year, whilst raising funds for the Holberton Hospital based unit. Her goal is to raise US$5,000 for equipment and supplies for the 11 children & adults housed at the unit.

Sutherland noted “As a business we provide a lot of support to charities and good causes across Antigua & Barbuda but sometimes it’s great to be able to do something personal and that’s just what I’m doing whilst raising awareness of The Care Project. I want all the effort and training I’ve put in the past few months to count towards something positive and by dedicating my efforts at running 26.2 miles in the New York Marathon to raise funds for a charity close to my heart, I’ll be helping to improve the quality of life of the children and adults who are cared for at the unit”

The Care Project housed in the pediatric ward of the old Holberton Hospital caters for the 11 patients, providing a home and medical support. The majority of residents are children suffering with cerebral palsy and secondary ailments, whilst others have health, developmental or mobility challenges.

With the recent closure of the Amazing Grace Foundation, the unit took in an additional 5 patients that has placed a strain on their already strained resources.

Donations can be made online at www.youcaring.com/careprojectantigua or the Digicel Royal Palm Branch for the attention of Janice Sutherland.
