DIGICEL ANNOUNCES INTERNATIONAL CALLS FROM AS LOW AS 33 CENTS
Friday 29th June 2012

Digicel, Antigua and Barbuda’s best value mobile provider is again delivering on its promise of delivering best value by offering international call rates as low as 33 cents per minute. Effective 1st July, the move comes on the back of the ending of the international monopoly which has been held by the incumbent, Cable & Wireless for the last 25 years.

Now, with the monopoly gone, Digicel is reducing both standard prepaid and postpaid rates by up to 40% to some destinations.  As of the morning of July 1st, all customers will automatically avail of the reduced rates and will not need to call customer care or visit a store. Even greater reductions and savings are on offer through four new postpaid Bolt On plans.  Customers can choose between plans offering calls to practically anywhere in the world from EC$0.50 per minute (including ABST) - a huge reduction of 670% on the EC$3.85 charged by some providers today.

As a long standing Caribbean company, Digicel understands how spread out Caribbean families are and will introduce a special plan offering calling to Digicel Caribbean numbers, numbers in the USA, Canada and even UK fixed numbers from EC$50 for 150 minutes. That is as low as EC$0.33 per minute. New and existing postpaid mobile and DigiHome subscribers can avail of these great value bundles simply by visiting a Digicel store and going through a quick and simple sign up process.

Digicel will also be launching new international corporate plans in the coming days and is inviting i all companies out there to contact Digicel so they can start saving as soon as possible. Victor Corcoran, Digicel Antigua and Barbuda CEO, is delighted that consumers will now be able to enjoy even better value. “Digicel is delighted to at last be able to offer even greater value on international calling to our customers in Antigua and Barbuda. I would like to thank all of our customers for their patience during the dark years of the international monopoly and express how delighted I am to be able to today announce the slashing of our international rates.”

He also thanked the government and the Ministry of Information for the role they played. “Digicel would like to express our gratitude to Minister Mansoor and his team at the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Science and Technology for their considerable diligence and application in managing the difficult transition from a monopoly environment to a fully-fledged competitive environment.

Digicel is confident that the efforts of Minister Mansoor and his team will be very quickly realised by the people of Antigua and Barbuda through the availability of greatly improved value in international calling rates.” It is important to note that Digicel Antigua has always offered the lowest international calling rates in the market; up to 15% less than the competitors. Now, Digicel will once again champion competition by delivering best value on international calling with normal rates now up to 40% lower and up to 85% lower with one of the new postpaid Bolt On plans.

People have been clamoring for liberalization and today Digicel is taking the first step towards delivering on their expectations while assuring customers that it has lots more in store for them.
