Tuesday 10th April 2012

Gerard Ashmore  GM, Digicel NOECS presents cheque to  Judy Blackman

Digicel in collaboration with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda presented a check for EC $50 000 to the Antigua and Barbuda Athletic Association (ABAA) in support of local athletes participating in the 2012 CARIFTA games being held in Bermuda over the Easter weekend.

President of the ABAA, Dr Rodney Williams thanked the Government and Digicel for supporting the country’s young and upcoming athletes, who will be representing Antigua and Barbuda at not only CARIFTA but a slew of other upcoming major competitions.
“We are very grateful for this contribution because this year we have a number of activities inclusive of the CARIFTA games in Bermuda,” Dr Williams said. “We also have games in El Salvador, we have the world youth games and we also have our national championship. All these competitions require funding, and in as much as we may try to raise funds, the level of funding that is required are more than we can raise ourselves.”

Gerard Ashmore, General Manager, Digicel OECS North, said “Digicel is pleased to support the Antigua and Barbuda Athletic Association. Digicel has long been a supporter of grass roots athletics and we’re committed to Olympians from Usain Bolt to Antigua’s own Jamol Pilgrim the nation’s only Paralympic athlete and will be holding some fund raising activities in support of the sprinting sensation”.

We wish the athletes attending the CARIFTA games every success with this event and in their future endeavours.” Ashmore said.
