2010 AVALANCHE CIRCUIT RACE / 2010 NATIONAL TIME TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association hosted their 8th cycling race for the 2010 Cycling Season on Sunday 27th June 2010. The race started on the top of Friars Hill Road, where numbers of spectators lined the street to be entertained by the competitive nature of the sport.
The show began with Neil Lloyd taking the lead from the gun but to be caught in the 2nd lap. The race broke up during the 3rd laps after the riders sprinted to the Friars Hill peak for the Garfield Construction preeme prize which was won by Jyme Bridges. Marsh and Bridges continued the jostling from the 3rd lap to the finish of the race with Jyme Bridges capturing his 6th victory on the local scene. Bridges won the Avalanche Circuit race in a time of 1:50.35.8 nipping Robert Marsh who was 2nd in a time of 1:50.35.9, the 2nd place rider was closely followed by Omari King who placed 3rd in a time of 1:51.19. Ira Fabian did a strong ride to place 4th in a time of 1:53.30. One of the fans greatest treat of the day came for the sprint finish between Marvin Spencer and Dale Richardson who sprinted home for 5th. The long and excited sprint was closely won by Masters, Dale Richardson to capture the 5th spot in a time of 1:54.41.4 ahead of Marvin Spencer who was 6th in a time of 1:54.41.5.
The rapidly improving Abevia McDonald continues to show good forms by winning the B-Class category. The island’s lone Junior category competitor, Abevia McDonald won the 8 lap event in a time of 1:32.09, 3 minutes ahead of Andre Simon who was 2nd in a time of 1:35.10. Timothy Thomas was 3rd in a time of 1:38.10.
Lindsay Duffy continues to dominate the Female class by winning the women 4 – lap class over Dorothy Graham. The OECS female triathlete champion placed 1st in a time of 57:27 ahead of Dorothy Graham who secured the 2nd and final spot in a time of 1:01.27.

Meanwhile, the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association will be hosting their 9th and final race for the first half of the race season before breaking for the national festival. The 2010 National Time Trial Championships will take place on Sunday 11th July. The 20 mile National Individual Time Trial Championships is sponsored by APUA PCS and Inet and will take place at 3:30pm, in front Police Recreation grounds. The race will head up Factory Road to Freemans Village Play Field and turn back down to the PRG for 2 laps. Robert Marsh is the reigning National Time Trial Champion and will be certainly defending his title, his strongest competition can come from the National Road Champion, Cosmos Richardson, OECS Champion, Jyme Bridges, Dale Richardson, Marvin Spencer, Ken Jackson, Abevia McDonald, Timothy Thomas, Ira Fabian and Neil Lloyd. The general public is asked to come out as support their favorite riders as they race against the clock.
