RBC ROYAL BANK OF CANADA DONATES TO CRIME STOPPERS ANTIGUA
Tuesday 27th July 2010

Kathie Antonio, Account Officer together with Robin Shaw, Country Manager for Antigua and Montserrat handed over a cheque to Crime Stoppers Antigua Chairman Neil Forrester at a short ceremony at the bank 's  headquarters on High & Market Streets .

RBC Royal Bank of Canada is the oldest financial institution on the island and has just celebrated its 95th anniversary of providing tested and proven banking services in Antigua and Barbuda. Mr Shaw stated that the bank was most happy to support Crime Stoppers Antigua and fully backs the initiative to help reduce crime on the island. Mr Shaw encourages other private businesses to follow the example of the bank underlining the Crime Stoppers Antigua slogan, "I can, You can, We can, together make a difference".

Crime Stoppers Antigua was established in November 2008 by providing an anonymous hotline 800-TIPS (8477) where anyone with information on any sort of criminal activity can call without fear of identifying themselves. All calls are received in a call centre in Canada and passed back to Crime Stoppers in a protected format. In the 20 months of operation Crime Stoppers has received nearly 150 tips which has led to the solving of several crimes and arrests.

Forrester noted that the money will be used to continue their awareness campaign. Crime Stoppers recently launched a poster campaign against the mounting number of gun related crimes and is working to encourage the general public to help the Police reduce the number of illegal firearms on the streets.
