YOUTHS HAVE IT IN 2010
Monday 27th September 2010

All the winners of the tournament gather for a photo call on Saturday.

The 3rd Annual Francis Nunes Tournament was definitely one for the youths with three of the major prizes going to youths aged sixteen and under. In a clean sweep, sixteen year old Danielle Mazely won largest wahoo, best female and best youth with her catch of a 57.25lb wahoo. Almost as long as she is tall, skipper Robert Shoul reported that the moment Danielle finished fighting the fish she was exhausted.  With youngest angler to catch a fish  Stephen Shoul and a 19.25lb wahoo on board Team Yamaha walked away with four of the eight trophies.

Danielle Mazely and her 57.25lb wahoo winning best Youth, Best Female and largest Wahoo.

In total 46 fish were caught of which 45 were wahoo, with the other a 27.75 lb dolphin caught by nine year old Joseph Nunes on board Hakuta Manuka. Therefore no prizes for largest tuna or kingfish could be awarded this year and best male went to Aden Ghanem with a wahoo catch of 45.75 on Simply Nutz..

Champion boat 25 feet and under went to Lesgo captained by Sean McMillan with a catch of 183.25lbs who with his team now have three successive tournaments winning the same trophy. Champion boat over 25 ft was won by Scallywag captained by Micky Hall and bringing in a catch of 206lbs.

The fish weigh in and prize giving were live streamed to the world right here on www.antiguabarbudasportfishing.com so anyone who couldn't be with us still got to check in and see what was happening.

Shoreside the crowd started gathering from two o'clock, grills were fired and the serious business of eating and drinking began. Shrimp, lobster, chowders, conch water and seafood rice and pasta was eaten in vast quantities and in most cases sold out before the end of the evening.

All day Chickie and his team kept the music coming along with Laku Samuel and later cuban singer Sunnay provided a lyrical latin vibe which kept diners nodding their heads throughout dinner.

Some extra glamour came from Chivas Regal bottle bar, Premier Beverages Rosé Wine Bar and Bryden's Blue Bubbly Cocktail Bar serving Bombay Sapphire and Grey Goose Vodka cocktails. Carib giveaways, EC$5 bar and Monster who was in full force with their quiz to win drinks completed the bars.

For the kids the toy store and tattoo stall were a resounding success again and new this year the Antigua and Barbuda Canoe Association were raising funds for the forthcoming Caribbean Surf Ski tour. Participants were invited to 'Mash the Mongoose' and mash is they did!

There is no doubt we lived up to our motto 'Enjoy the fishing, enjoy the lime'.

The next tournament is Best in the West which takes place in Jolly Harbour on 20th November 2010 followed by the 45th Sport Fishing Tournament and the Antigua and Barbuda Marlin Classic which take place from June 10th - 13th 2011. Save the dates now!
