Good News! There is now a fully accredited independent sailing school in Antigua! Miramar Sailing Ltd has been recognised as an RYA Training Centre. They will be offering a full range of courses and certificates from their base in Jolly Harbour. If you’ve never sailed before but always fancied ‘giving it a go’, try the ‘Start Yachting’ weekends. Sailed a bit but want to know more – maybe the ‘Competent Crew’ or ‘Day Skipper’ courses are for you – 5 days on their comfortable cruising yacht ‘Miramar’, a 40ft Beneteau, developing your sailing skills and experiencing life on board – all in the beautiful blue water of Caribbean! Their schedule of courses begins in January 2011, courses progress from novice to Yachtmaster over an 8 week period – during that time there are opportunities for mile building on a trip down the Windward Island chain, and practising sailing in the tidal waters around the Grenadines. If you already have some qualifications but wish to further your yachting career you can take any exam up to RYA Ocean Yachtmaster, all the Theory Courses on the RYA Cruising Syllabus are also available. Brian & Pippa, the founders of Miramar Sailing, are both themselves Ocean Yachtmasters and they will ensure that the same standards of professionalism and safety will be applied to the sailing school operation as have always been applied to their charter business – one of the premier sailing companies in the Caribbean, and their reputation for customer service is faultless!
