‘Intimate, open, like eating at home with friends’. This is how Serge, chef at Rumbaba describes the experience in this new restaurant and bar. An open kitchen affords diners perfect views of food preparation, and as Serge says many people select their dishes at the preparation and cooking stage without even looking at the daily menu.
Taste buds being popping the moment you walk through the door, as there is always something simmering on the stove and invading the air with delectable aromas.
For Ilaria, partner and front of house, her dream was a small venue where the menu reflects what is fresh and available. Because Rumbaba has a kitchen wide open to its guests, and very limited storage space, the team buy daily and re-create the menu as they go. Certainly tasty, fresh and abundant vegetables and fast service are a key part of their lunch concept. Buffet style choices at EC$5 allow you to custom build your lunch to be as small or as large as you are hungry for. Chose from excellent meat balls, quiche, vegetables, salad and potatoes for example and within two minutes the food is served and ready to eat.
For dinner, garlic infused linguine, mahi mahi, risotto and an excellent sirloin of steak are often on the menu. Serge admits to his cuisine being heavily Mediterranean influenced with garlic, olives, parsley butter and olive oil being ever present in his food. Great value too, with main courses ranging from EC$35 – EC$55. This is seriously excellent food at café prices.
This cute bar restaurant is a place Serge encourages you to ‘Come for a drink, a glass of excellent wine, or a great coffee, and maybe you will decide to stay for lunch or dinner.’ And of course some excellent desserts, including sweet wine parfair and chocolate mousse.
