Antigua and Barbuda’s top kite-surfer Tiger Tyson has booked his spot at the 2026 Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Games, following a strong showing at the 2025 Formula Kite World Championships in Sardinia, Italy.
Competing in his first major event since the 2024 Paris Olympics, Tyson earned his CAC Games qualification by finishing as the second-highest Caribbean and Central American athlete, placing 41st overall in the world-class field.
Speaking with Observer Media, Tyson admitted the result came as a pleasant surprise, given his limited preparation and recent equipment changes.
“It gave me a lot of hope based on the fact that I hadn’t prepared myself very well for this event,” he said. “I was still in the mix, so yeah, it gave me some hope for the future. The CAC Games are at the end of July next year, so I’ll try to do another event before that to prepare myself and get used to this new equipment.”
The 25-year-old athlete, who also announced his recent engagement, revealed that he and his fiancée are training for an ultramarathon, a race exceeding the traditional marathon distance of 42.195 kilometres.
“To kind of distract my mind from all the kiting, I’m also training for an ultramarathon. That’s something I’ll be doing before the Games,” Tyson explained. “I’m doing it with my fiancée, who I got engaged to this year, so it’s been a big year of change since the Olympics.”
A podium finish at the 2026 CAC Games could see Tyson advance to the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru—an event that will serve as a qualifier for the 2028 Olympic Games in the United States.
