JOLLY HARBOUR YACHT CLUB NEWS
Saturday 21st December 2013

Jolly Harbour Yacht Club is very active once again, and the Commodore has been producing weekly newsletters keeping everyone informed of the latest happenings in and around the Club.

Saturday sailing is very active with new courses and extra marks laid in Five Islands Harbour.  The notice board at West Point Bar is now well lit and information about marks, courses and other Club-related matters will be posted there on a regular basis.  Visiting yachts from other clubs in Antigua that wish to participate in Saturday sailing are invited to contact jollycommodore@gmail.com to arrange overnight berthing.

The Valentine's Regatta is just around the corner and everyone is encouraged to get their entries in early.  The first yacht chartered from Ondeck entered on Friday so participation is looking good at this early stage.  It is hoped that the popular Rum Festival will return next year alongside music and dancing in the square.  In order to provide a quality event, many volunteers are needed.  Anyone interested in getting involved and helping with the organisation is asked to get in touch with Grahame Williams at gwleopard1@gmail.com.

There will be a beach barbecue in Jolly Harbour on Christmas Day and everyone is welcome.  The Club has invested in a half oil drum barbecue which will be charcoal fired for use at beach events and it will be made available to members for private parties for a small charge.  It is hoped it will be ready for the Christmas beach barbecue.

The Commodore and his Lady were guests at Antigua Yacht Club's Annual Dinner last weekend where they had an opportunity to chat with AYC's Commodore, John Duffy, and Fleet Captain, Clare Cupples-Leader, regarding joint sailing and social events.  More to come on that!

Jolly Harbour Yacht Club held a Christmas Party at Akropolis Greek Restaurant in Jolly Harbour on Thursday evening and it was a great success with over 60 people in attendance.  A very special guest speaker, member of America's Cup winning team, Shannon Falcone, was in attendance and after his presentation he welcomed questions from the floor.  The evening was a huge success and very much enjoyed by all!

Membership for 2014 continues to increase steadily.  Please contact the Membership Secretary at barbara.thomson123@gmail.com to enter and avoid the rush to join at the upcoming Annual General Meeting which will be held on January 6, 2014 at Il Giardino Restaurant at the Jolly Harbour Golf Club at 6:30 pm.

Jolly Harbour Yacht Club wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas!
