JHYC ANNUAL REGATTA HELD LAST WEEKEND Monday 10th December 2012
Jolly Harbour Yacht Club held its Annual Regatta last weekend, December 8 and 9, 2012. The winds cooperated by offering in excess of 20 knots from time to time over the course of the weekend, which provided some exciting moments. Unfortunately, they also contributed to the dismasting of Full Monty, which ended her weekend of racing on Saturday but fortunately no one was injured.
In the Cruising class the racing was very close with Sandy Mair's Cricket taking all three wins on Saturday, followed in second place by Hans Lammers on Frolic. But Colin Jones wasn't deterred and put in some excellent racing on Sunday which resulted in two wins. When all was said and done, Sandy Mair's consistency prevailed, providing him with the win in class and a win overall. In second place in the Cruising class was Hans Lammers on Frolic followed close behind by Colin Jones on Cydia.
In the Racing/Cruising class Tanner Jones' Blue Peter was in the lead after Saturday's three races but was overtaken by Geoffrey Pidduck on Biwi Magic on Sunday for Biwi Magic to take the overall class win. Blue Peter settled for second place in Racing/Cruising class while Rick Gormley's Elethea took home the trophy for third. Rounding out the class were Digicel Challenger sailed by the National Sailing Academy racing team in fourth place, Gerry Bardoe's Encore in fifth place and John Wills' Ocean Harmony in sixth place.
The final prize giving and regatta party were held at West Point Bar in the centre of Jolly Harbour, home of the Jolly Harbour Yacht Club.
