JOLLY HARBOUR YACHT CLUB

In Antigua which, thanks to the National Sailing Academy and the yacht clubs’ youth sailing programs, is seeing a massive increase in children and young adults developing an interest in sailing, 10-year old Jules Mitchell, along with his sister Carla, first discovered his love of sailing.  Last summer, a sailing program organized by the Jolly Harbour Yacht Club (JHYC) was made available free of charge to Antiguan children from 8 to 18 years of age, and that is where Jules quickly developed his sea legs. 
 
Initially learning basic skills in a Sport 16, Jules quickly progressed and became competent in a Hobie 16, which he loves.  He is now experienced enough to take beginners out to show them how to work the sheets.
 
JHYC has a Saturday sailing series throughout the year and Jules recently joined in racing on keel boats.  He now sails on local boat Blue Peter and is proficient enough to have been part of the crew in the recent Jolly Harbour Valentine’s Regatta in which Blue Peter did very well.  As a result of this success, he has been invited by owner and captain, Tanner Jones, to be part of the crew on Blue Peter for Antigua Sailing Week 2011.  He is so excited that he can't wait for the 24th of April! Jules is very keen and now wants to do nothing but sail!  At the grand old age of 11 we are delighted that Jules will be flying the flag for Antiguan youths and gaining some fantastic regatta experience.  The next rock star perhaps . . .?
