BOXING DAY BARREL RACE Monday 7th July 2025
The Antigua Yacht Club (AYC) has officially announced the return of its much-loved Boxing Day Race, also known as “The Barrel,” taking place on December 26, 2025. Now in its 10th edition, this spirited event has evolved from its roots in the Christmas High Tide Series into a hallmark standalone race on the club's sailing calendar, welcoming sailors of all levels to join in the festive competition.
This year’s course promises a longer challenge, taking competitors from AYC to Curtain Bluff and back, to encourage spinnaker racing. However, a strong non-spinnaker class is also expected to bring plenty of action. Defending champion Josh Bailey and his yacht Gypsy currently hold the coveted Barrel trophy and are ready to defend the title against all challengers.
Participants and spectators alike can look forward to a lively post-race gathering at the Antigua Yacht Club. With friendly rivalry, exhilarating sailing, and the chance to shake off those Christmas cobwebs, the event is shaping up to be a highlight of the holiday season. Rear Commodore and Event Director Sandy Mair encourages all to “come out on Boxing Day and enjoy the camaraderie and competition.”
