Antigua & Barbuda, St. John’s – The Wishing Well Inc. foundation has continued its ongoing efforts to help young Antiguans & Barbudans to get much needed medical assistance. Representatives of the Pineapple Beach Club Resort & Spa and of the St. James’s Club & Villas presented several cheques to offset medical and travel expenses. Five children along with a parent had their tickets paid for, which allowed them to visit regional and international medical institutions to receive lifesaving surgery and/or have critical medical tests done. These paediatric patients have been diagnosed with cancer or heart conditions.

A spokesperson for Wishing Well Inc. said: “We are happy that we are able to assist these young children and their families to travel to the various specialized medical institutions, so that they can start a new and healthier chapter in their lives. We have once again partnered with the Social Worker of the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) to donate to these worthy causes. These donations were in honour of the International Childhood Awareness Day and the Heart Health Awareness activities of February, but not all patients travelled last month. In addition to these new patients, we have also assisted other cancer patients who need long-term support.”

Miss Koren Norton, Social Worker MSJMC, who received the cheques on behalf of the various patients and their families, stated: “The health of our nation's children is a top priority for us at the Mount St John's Medical Centre. We are grateful for the consistent and very generous donations from the Wishing Well Foundation which enabled children to travel to the World Paediatric Project Cardiology Mission and also to other programmes. Some of the assistance received also helped children to see local specialists and others to be able to meet their nutritional needs with food donations. We appreciate these gifts from the bottom of our hearts and we say to the Wishing Well staff, ‘Thank you for investing in our nation's precious jewels’.
