GRACEHILL MORAVIAN CHURCH CELEBRATES 240 YEARS Friday 7th June 2013
The Pastors, Joint Boards and Members of the Gracehill Moravian Church will blow out 240 candles during the month of June (2013).
For the occasion, the 240th Anniversary Committees have planned a time of celebration featuring three (3) major activities: an Awards Banquet on Saturday June 8th, an Anniversary Service on Sunday June 9th and the release of the 240th Anniversary Magazine.
At the Awards Banquet, the Gracehill Moravian community will be joined in fellowship and fun by members of other Moravian Churches. At the event, six (6) members of the congregation will be awarded for their sterling contribution to the growth and development of the church. The Keynote Speaker, ‘a son of the soil’, one who grew up in the Gracehill Moravian Church, Dr. Rev. Conrad Spencer, now Pastor of Faith Moravian Church, St. Croix, will address the gathering on the topic –“Service and Commitment”. The business community has also joined in the celebration by donating several door prizes for the event.
The following day, commencing at 4:00 p.m., the 240th Anniversary Service takes place. It is anticipated that the church will be full to capacity and that the congregation will include State and Government Officials, representatives of the hierarchy of the Moravian Church - Antigua Conference, and the Eastern West Indies Province, Past Ministers of the Gracehill Moravian Church, Libertans, friends and supporters. Home-grown Moravian, Rev. Cicely Athill-Horsford, now Pastor of Mount Tabor & Penuel Congregations in Barbados will deliver the Sermon.
The Gracehill Moravian Church, located in Liberta Village, St. Paul’s Parish, opened its doors in the year 1773. Since then, the church through God’s grace, mercy and direction, has made, and continues to make, an indelible mark on the spiritual, educational and social lives of not only its members and the people of Liberta Village, but also those of the surrounding villages and the Antigua & Barbuda society as a whole.
