WHAT Thursday 4th September 2014
We’re officially in the summer doldrums, with many restaurants and businesses closed during September and October, awaiting the time when our biggest flood of visitors arrive on the island in November. So you may be wondering just where you can go when you are looking for a good meal or a stiff drink and some entertainment over the next few weeks.
Here’s a quick recap of where you can go from now until the end of October, categorized by location on the island.
English Harbour
Abracadabra is open for dinner every evening until September 7, and then only on Fridays and Saturdays to the end of September; they will be closed all of October and into the middle of November.
Admiral’s Inn in Nelson’s Dockyard will be reopening on October 3, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Bumpkins, the beach bar on Pigeon Point Beach, is open from 11 am to 5 pm every day except Tuesday
Captain’s Quarters Sports Bar & Restaurant at the Catamaran Hotel is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Mondays through Saturdays.
Carib Bean Coffee Roastery on Horsford Hill is closed from September 6-22, but will be open thereafter.
Cloggy’s Café at the Antigua Yacht Club Marina is now open for lunch and tapas into the evening, and serves dinner on Friday and Saturday nights as well as Sunday brunch.
Club Sushi at the Antigua Yacht Club has been closed, and reopened on September 12, when they will be open every evening but Sunday for dinner, starting at 5 pm.
Hamilton’s Wine Bar and Bistro in Nelson’s Dockyard will be re-opening onThursday, September 18, serving dinner Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Monday evenings.
Life on the Corner in English Harbour is closed from September 15 to October 30, reopening with a Halloween Party on October 31.
Mad Mongoose in English Harbour will be reopening on October 1, and from then on they will be open every day from 3 pm to midnight for drinks and dinner.
Shirley Heights Lookout overlooking English Harbour is open every day from 9 am, closing at sunset on Mondays and 10 pm on all other days
Touloulou Bar & Restaurant, on the hill above English Harbour, will reopen on October 1, serving lunch on a schedule yet to be announced, and dinner every evening but Tuesday from 6:30 to 10 pm
Trappas Restaurant, on the road to Nelson’s Dockyard, will reopen on September 30, serving dinner every night but Sunday from 5 to 10 pm.
Zambuka Coffee, Wine & Dessert Bar at the Connect complex will be closed from September 15, then will resume the Thursday Reggae nights on October 16 and will open other evenings later in the season.
Dickenson Bay/Ft. James/North Island
Ana’s on the Beach on Dickenson Bay is open every day from 10 am to 11 pm, with lunch, dinner and early and late happy hours.
Bay House Restaurant at Trade Winds Hotel is open every day from 7 am to 11 pm, with the added bonus of all-day breakfast.
BeachLimerz on Ft. James Beach is open every day from 11 am to 11 pm (and slightly longer on weekends), serving lunch and dinner.
Big Banana’s 17 61 at the VC Bird International Airport is open every day from 7 am to 9 pm for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Blue Waters Hotel has three restaurants, The Palm, Barthley’s and The Cove, which are open on regular schedules—check with the hotel for exact times.
Cecilia’s High Point Café on Dutchman’s Bay reopened Saturday, September 6 for the rest of the season, offering lunch Wednesday through Monday from 12 to 4 pm, and dinner on Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 9:30 pm.
Chippy’s Antigua, the unique food truck on Dickenson Bay Road, will reopen at the end of September after remodeling, and then will be open on Wednesdays and Fridays for dinner.
Coconut Grove Restaurant on Dickenson Bay is open year round for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus happy hour for sunset watching.
D-Boat, Antigua’s floating restaurant near Maiden island, is open from Wednesdays through Sundays during the summer, and will return to full 7-day operation in the fall.
Le Bistro Restaurant in Hodges Bay will reopen on October 3, with dinner from 6:30 to 10:30 pm every night but Monday.
Miller’s by the Sea on Ft. James Beach is open every day from 8 am until the last guests leave, for breakfast, lunch, dinner and bar service.
Putter’s Bar & Grill on the road to Dickenson Bay is open every day except Sunday from 5 pm until about 2 am.
The Blu Pineapple, located above Halcyon Cove, is open every evening from 5 to 11 pm for happy hour and dinner.
St. John’s & Environs
Big Banana’s Pizzas in Paradise, located in Redcliffe Quay, is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 am to midnight, for lunch and dinner.
Burger King, with two locations in St. John’s, is open daily. The Deluxe Cinema restaurant is open from 7 am to 10 pm every day except Fridays and Saturdays, when it is open to 11 pm. The Market Street site is 7 am to midnight Monday through Thursday, 7 am to 2 am Friday and Saturday, and 7 am to 11 pm on Sunday.
C&C Wine Bar, located in Redcliffe Quay, is open for lunch and dinner every day except Sunday; hours are 10 am to 11 pm except Mondays when they close at 5 pm.
Café Napoleon in Redcliffe Quay will be closed for September and will reopen mid-October, when they will resume hours from 9:30 am to 4 pm.
City View Hotel’s Sapodilla Restaurant is open daily, from 7 to 10 am for breakfast, 12 to 3 pm for lunch, and 7 to 10 pm for dinner.
Fred’s Belgian Waffles & Ice Cream in Redcliffe Quay (formerly Australian Homemade) is open for snacks from 10 am to 10:30 pm Monday to Saturday, and 2 to 9:30 pm on Sunday.
Heavenly Java 2 Go, a café in Redcliffe Quay, is open from Monday to Saturday, from 9 am to 3 pm for coffee and light fare.
Hemingway’s Caribbean Cafe on St. Mary’s Street is on a modified schedule for September, closed for dinner but opening for breakfast and lunch only on Sept. 9,10,17,22,23,29 and 30, and then open for the rest of the season.
Island B-Hive Sports Bar, at the center of Heritage Quay, is open from 8 am to 11 pm Monday through Saturday; the kitchen closes at 10 pm.
King’s Casino in Heritage Quay is open from 10 am to 2 am Monday through Saturday, and 6 pm to 2 am on Sunday.
Subway has two locations in St. Johns, open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Redcliffe Street store is open 7:30 am to 10 pm Monday to Saturday, and 9:30 am to 6:30 pm on Sunday and holidays. The Old Parham Road restaurant is open 7:30 am-10 pm Monday to Thursday, 7:30 am to 11 pm Friday and Saturday, and 9:30 am to 6:30 pm on Sunday and holidays.
The Larder in the Royal Palm Plaza is open Mondays through Saturdays from 7 am to 9:30 pm for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the Sushi Bar opens at noon.
Jolly Harbour and Round South
Al Porto Restaurant in Jolly Harbour is closed in September, but reopens October 1 for dinner from 5 to 11 pm.
Carlisle Bay Resort, closed until October 18, has three restaurants, Indigo, East and Ottimo!, and between them cover all meals for guests and visitors.
Carmichael’s, sitting high above Sugar Ridge Hotel, is open from 3 to 11 pm Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with dinner starting at 6 pm. They have a special Sunday Chill from 3 to 7 pm, with a small plates menu and wines.
Curtain Bluff Hotel has two restaurants, Tamarind Tree and Sea Grape, with lunch served from 12:30 to 2 pm and dinner from 7 to 9 pm daily. The resort is closed for the season until October 25.
Darkwood Beach Bar, on the road south of Jolly Harbour, is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm for breakfast, lunch, dinner and sunset watching.
Dennis Cocktail Bar & Restaurant on Ffryes Beach is on limited summer schedule, open Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays from noon to 9 pm. They will be closed from September 14-28, but available for groups during that time, and will resume their full schedule in October.
Jacqui O’s Beach House will be reopening on October 21, then open from 10 am to 6 pm every day except Monday.
Mayday Restaurant in Jolly Harbour is now reopens for the rest of the season, serving dinner now and reopening for lunch later in September.
Sheer Rocks Restaurant Bar Lounge at the Cocobay Resort in Valley Church is open for their tapas lunch every day but Tuesday, and for dinner from 6 pm every day except Tuesday and Sunday.
Shells Fish & Chips, the double decker bus in the new North Coast Village across from Sugar Ridge, serves dinner every day from 4 to 10 pm.
Sugar Club, in the Sugar Ridge Resort, is open every day for breakfast from 7 to 10:30 am and lunch from noon to 3 pm. Dinner is offered on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 6 to 10 pm.
The Crow’s Nest in Jolly Harbour is open every day from 7:30 am to 11 pm for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The Nest Beach Bar & Restaurant at Valley Church Beach will be reopening in early October, serving lunch and dinner as well as renting beach lounges.
Eastern Coast/Long Bay
La Tartaruga at Long Bay reopens in early October, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner every day from 9 am to 6 pm except Mondays.
The Bay at Nonsuch Resort is currently closed, and will reopen on October 4 with breakfast, lunch and dinner available daily.
Lest you think we may have forgotten them, there are several restaurants that will be reopening November 1 or thereabouts. These include Cambusa Italian Restaurant, Catherine’s Café Plage, Harmony Hall, Ristorante Paparazzi, Seabreeze Café and Sun Ra.
