BART'S BASH 2017 RESULTS Friday 22nd September 2017
On Sunday, September 17th – Not withstanding the imminent arrival of Hurricane Maria – the National Sailing Academy and the Antigua Yacht Club still managed to hold the ‘Barts Bash’ regatta. This regatta takes place all over the world annually and all proceeds are donated to the Andrew Simpson (aka ‘Bart’) Simpson Foundation. The funds raised this year will be dedicated to helping youth sailing venues who have suffered hurricane damage from Irma, Jose & Maria.
This is the world’s largest regatta – this year, there were 4,240 sailors taking part in 80 countries. The regatta took place in the morning, in excellent sailing conditions, with a total of 28 boats on the water. In the afternoon, all the sailors assisted with the task of securing boats & buildings at both venues ready for the approaching hurricane on Monday.
The winners of each class were:
- Laser - Jules Mitchell.
- Optimist Green - Alistair Knoblauch.
- Quba - Tyrique Adams.
- Optimist Advanced - Maurice Belgrave
- Feva - Joshua Daniels & Andre Warner.
- Venture - Geoffrey & Janie Pidduck.
Thanks go to Hon. E.P. Chet Greene for presenting the prizes - which were kindly donated by Budget Marine.
