REMINDER RE KICK-‘EM-JENNY VOLCANO
Thursday 23rd July 2015

Upate:  The warning regarding the increased level of activity at the Kick 'em Jenny Volcano has now been removed but sailors are reminded to stay clear of the area at all times as the Volcano could erupt at any time.

--------------------------------------------------

Antigua and Barbuda and the rest of the region are monitoring the increased level of volcanic activity in the area north of Grenada from the underwater volcano Kick-‘em-Jenny.

Information from the UWI Seismic Research Centre in Trinidad is that the Alert Level associated with the volcano is consistent with guidelines under Level Red.

There has not been a volcanic eruption however the Seismic Centre says there has been a strong, continuous signal in all likelihood of an eruption based on what has been recorded at seismic stations in Montserrat.

UWI Seismic notes that the exclusion zone of 5km around Kick-‘em-Jenny should be strictly observed and maritime interests should be vigilant in the area.

It stated that while the effects of eruptions at this volcano are usually contained below the surface of the sea, those in coastal areas should remain vigilant and listen to updates from their disaster offices.

The UWI Seismic Centre continues to monitor and update as more data come to hand.
