ENSURE HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS DURING PEAK MONTHS
Monday 9th August 2021

As the hurricane season moves into the peak months, the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) is urging residents to remain on the alert for any approaching system and ensure preparedness.

Individuals should make certain that their preparedness plans are complete. This should include re-enforcing homes, trimming over-hanging branches, having emergency kits in place and knowing the location of the nearest shelter.

Emergency kits should include non-perishable food and water to last for a few days, flashlight, battery-operated radio, extra batteries, medication, change of clothing, masks, hand sanitizer, baby supplies – if required, activity books and games for children. Blanket and sheet for sleeping purposes should also be part of the kit.

Meanwhile, NODS continues to train volunteers in a number of areas like radio telecommunication, shelter and shelter management and community emergency response.

Individuals from the various districts have been benefiting from the training sessions.
