SCHOOL ART COMPETITION Tuesday 6th April 2021
The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS), in an effort to enhance disaster risk management (DRM) knowledge, will be hosting a Hazard Arts Competition for secondary school students with a theme focused on “ Disaster Awareness and Preparedness, (#DAP).”
This initiative has been undertaken through donor funded projects, particularly, “Strengthen integrated and cohesive preparedness capacity in the Caribbean”, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) European Union Country Direct Funds.
Students are asked to select one hazard (Droughts, Earthquakes, Floods, Hurricanes, Tsunami, etc.) and through art demonstrate knowledge of the hazard as well as its preparedness through any medium. One entry per student is required and the deadline for submission is 7th May 2021, 1pm at the NODS Office, American Road.
Main prizes include:
- Winner - EC$1,500.00
- 2nd Place – EC$1,000.00
- 3rd Place – EC$700.00
- 4th Place – EC$500.00
- School with the most entries – EC$1,000 in art supplies.
Winning pieces will also be featured in an upcoming disaster risk management booklet and all participants will be invited to a disaster risk management training workshop in June 2021. Additionally, all submitted artwork will be featured in a NODS DRM Calendar in an effort to raise awareness on disaster preparedness.
