PREMIER MOTORS ANTIGUA

Founded in 2007, Premier Motors Antigua, owned and run by John ‘Gilly’ Gill is the exclusive dealership for Land Rover, Jaguar and JCB throughout Antigua and Barbuda.

Having visited the island first in 1996 and stayed at Galleon Beach (following a week in the BVI’s Sailing in the Interline Regatta) Gilly and his partner Colleen fell in love with Antigua and decided to make Antigua their permanent home. A member of the Antigua Yacht Club and the Carsington Sailing Club in the United Kingdom, Gilly has continued to enter regattas worldwide.

Their genuine desire to offer support and help to the Antiguan community at large, and the sailing community in English Harbour specifically, has resulted in Premier Motors providing the police with a Land Rover vehicle enabling them to gain access to many more properties than previously possible due to the uneven roads and tracks in the area as well as assisting in providing a Land Rover Ambulance which has been modified to carry life saving equipment, a stretcher and a medic. The ambulance is operated by Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue (ABSAR).

When Gilly heard about the creation of the National Sailing Academy his immediate reaction was a desire to get involved and has generously paid for the creation of the academy website www.nationalsailingacademy.org. His belief is that sailing is an unbelievable sport which everyone should have the opportunity to get involved in from as young an age as possible. Gilly states ‘If Antiguan children learn to sail, it means that we can develop more world class sailors right here in Antigua and Barbuda. For anyone learning to sail it helps develop confidence, allows them to meet people from all walks of life and have fun at the same time. Sailing is all about team work and therefore is a great way of teaching young people how to develop a number of skills that can be used in their future development, whether on a yacht, or in any other career of their choice.
