ANTIGUA LAUDED FOR EXCELLENT SPORTS TOURISM OFFERING
Friday 16th March 2012

The members of the Kent Cricket Club are singing praises to the Sports Tourism Team who coordinated and executed the details of their training camp here in Antigua for the past week.

Head Coach and Former West Indies Team Captain Jimmy Adams is of the opinion that both the controllable and uncontrollable aspects of their stint were ultimately favourable suiting the purpose for which they came.

The focus of the tour was to prepare the younger members of the team whilst fine-tuning the 1st team members to ensure a flying start to the English Cricket season.

“First of all the uncontrollable…the weather has been fantastic and the controllables have been of a very high standard. The facility here at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium has been excellent, the crew on the ground has been very supportive”, stated Coach Adams.

Adams went on to give special commendations to the Head grounds man Mr. Tony Merrick whom he had been in contact with prior to his team’s arrival in Antigua and Merrick he reported “delivered everything he said he would by turning out a very good practice wicket!”

The management and staff of the Grand Pineapple resort too received high regards with Coach Adams stating that the team delighted in their accommodations and in the service they were given which was second to none.

These reports auger well for the prospects of Sports Tourism in Antigua, and the team is delighted. National hero and cricket legend Antiguan born Sir Viv Richards who headed the marketing team to London England selling Antigua as a sports tourism destination, in latter 2011, is happy to hear reviews of the Kent Cricket Club. He says it is an effort worth building on.

“What I think now, what we would’ve gotten from here we have to build on to ensure continued success and take the initiative out into the communities as well so that the teams that visit here receive a good overall perspective of what we have to offer,” said Sir Viv.

The prestigious Kent County Club based in London, England arrived in Antigua on March 7th and returned home on March 16th.

The country is set to host two other cricket clubs from England in July and November 2012, the Joseph Williams College and the Warwickshire Over-Fifties Club.
