In a landmark achievement for the twin-island nation, Antigua and Barbuda has been named the Caribbean’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination 2025 by the prestigious World Travel Awards. This marks the first time the country has claimed the title, solidifying its emergence as a premier hub for global gatherings and business tourism.
The announcement was made during the World Travel Awards Caribbean and North America Gala Ceremony, where Antigua and Barbuda outshone regional contenders including Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and The Bahamas. The accolade recognizes the nation’s strategic investment in the MICE sector—Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions—and its growing reputation for hosting world-class events.
“This win is an honour,” said The Honourable Charles Fernandez, Minister of Tourism. “It is the result of the hard work that has been done to build out the MICE product by all stakeholders—from government and tourism officials to hotel partners, venues, and destination management companies. It also validates the strategy at the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority to position our country as a Caribbean destination for major meetings and incentive experiences.”
Recent high-profile events have played a pivotal role in elevating the nation’s global profile. In May 2024, Antigua and Barbuda hosted the United Nations 4th International Conference of Small Island Developing States (SIDS4), followed by the 43rd Caribbean Travel Marketplace in May 2025. The 55th General Assembly of the Organization of American States also convened on the island in June 2025. Looking ahead, the country is set to host the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in 2026, welcoming His Majesty King Charles III and leaders from 56 Commonwealth nations.
Colin C. James, CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, emphasized the destination’s readiness: “With our seamless air connections, modern airport, efficient transportation, varied accommodation offerings, modern venues, and qualified personnel, Antigua and Barbuda is ready to deliver exceptional service for event planners and delegates.”
Beyond its business appeal, Antigua and Barbuda offers a rich cultural experience. From its UNESCO-listed Nelson’s Dockyard to its famed 365 beaches and vibrant calendar of cuisine, music, sports, and arts, the destination blends professional excellence with unforgettable leisure.
This win not only celebrates the nation’s hospitality and infrastructure but also signals a new era for Antigua and Barbuda—one where sun, sea, and sand meet serious business. As the global spotlight continues to shine, the twin-island paradise stands ready to welcome the world.
