ANTIGUA & BARBUDA AGRO-PRODUCTS, ARTS, CRAFTS SHOWCASE IN ST. CROIX AGRI-FEST
Monday 20th February 2012
18 February, 2012 St. Croix, USVI:- Agricultural Rainbow -Pot of Gold was the concept of the Antigua and Barbuda’s agro –product displayed during the 41st annual Agri-Fest, which opened Saturday at the Rudolph Shulterbrant Grounds in St. Croix.

Extension Officer Sereno Benjamin explained the display featured a wide variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables which form the colours of the rainbow.

The Black Pineapples were displayed in a pot shape while Pineapples, carrots and hot peppers were used to depict the sun. “We had the seasonings at the top of the pot which indicates that people season their foods to make it tastier, so, the next time people of the USVI, sees the rainbow they will remember our display Agricultural Rainbow Pot of Gold.”

Benjamin said further that “the pot of gold is that people benefit economically through saving and from eating healthy, which eliminates the cost of medicine. This wide variety means that producers have a wide range of crops to grow and make a living, for Antigua & Barbuda our premium product is the Black Pineapple.”

Meanwhile Youth Farmer Twini Payne of Twinstod Enterprise also came out with a strong exhibition comprising authentic crafts, confectionaries and locally produces.

His display coincides with the overall theme of the three –day long festivities “Youth In Agriculture Growing Our Future.”

During the opening ceremony, Dr. Louis Petersen Jr. Commissioner of Agriculture of the USVI, urged participants to fulfill our part to encourage youth involvement in the agriculture sector.
This, he said “is the only way to ensure the continuity and success of the industry of agriculture.”
