TOURISM FORUM TARGETS GRADUATES OF THE CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECT
Monday 31st January 2011

Dozens of hotel industry stakeholders are expected to come together this Thursday, February 3rd in a Tourism Training Capacity Building FORUM at the Multi-Purpose Cultural Centre.

The Forum is designed to bring together employees and small hotel owners/managers who have benefitted to date from the OAS –Ministry of Tourism Capacity Building project over the past two years, to continue their professional development, network and share on successful ideas, solutions and best practices influenced by participation in training programmes executed under the project.

Over the half-day session, the spotlight will be placed on specially-crafted topics with the expectation that presentations will provide opportunity for reality-check and to encourage practical and relevant follow-through.

After a brief official opening which will feature Minister of Tourism, Hon. John Maginley and the OAS local representative, Jean Dormeus, a presentation will be made on Building A Competitive Brand –Where are we now and Where are we going? Also a panel will address such topics as Top Trends in Travel & Tourism, HR Development: A Marketing Tool and The High Road to Service. Following a mid-morning break, in round-table interactive sessions, participants will discuss topics such as Improving Training Effectiveness, Building and Enhancing Your Brand and Managing Quality Service.

Given the importance of going “green”, the programme features a Tourism Tidbit Moment to focus on a local case study. This moment is expected to provide first hand information, advice, ideas and know-how on a “green” focus for sound and sustainable environmental practices in the industry.

The day’s activities will close-off with presentations from the round-table interactive sessions.
It is anticipated that in addition to the graduates of the training programme under the Capacity Building Project, HR Managers, Training and Development Managers and other management staff will be in attendance.

The Tourism Training and Capacity Building FORUM is planned as a precursor activity to the series of training programmes to be conducted under the umbrella of the OAS-Ministry of Tourism Capacity Building: Tourism Training and Certification Project, now in its third and final year.
