FCCA CHILDREN'S ENVIRONMENTAL POSTER CONTEST
Tuesday 14th December 2010

In an effort to heighten awareness about the environment and the importance of protecting it, the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) is encouraging local primary and secondary school students to participate in its 2011 Foundation Children's Environmental poster contest.

The competition will be conducted throughout the region in two categories: the Junior and Senior Divisions.  Participants for the junior division must be 12 years of age and under (contestants should not have passed their 13th birthday by March 12, 2011).  In the senior division pupils should be between 13 and 16 (and should not have passed their 17th birthday by March 12, 2011).

Students should submit one poster each, and select a topic of their choice that promotes environmental awareness. Individual posters must depict at least three ways in which the destination chosen could make a difference in preserving the environment. They must be accompanied by a summary description, along with the title of the poster. Words can also be used to highlight the ideas illustrated. Posters must be of standard size 22’ by 28’ (poster or Bristol board).

Work submitted may also be in colour, black and white, or a collage; in whatever medium the entrant chooses, (for example paint, water colour etc.).

Entries will be judged on creativity; relevance to the theme; content and quality of the presentation (namely layout or design). Art Work must be accompanied by the name of the student, school and principal.  The student’s home address, telephone numbers and the student’s date of birth should also be included. Individual entries must be sent through the contestant’s school, with the teachers and staff/ selection committee choosing two winners, one from each age category.

All material must be in English and should be forwarded to the Ministry of Tourism, Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael by Monday, January 10, 2011.

At the local level, winning students and their teachers will be treated to complimentary tours on board cruise ships docking at the Bridgetown Port, books and trophies.

At the regional level, the FCCA will award cash scholarships to the first, second and third place winners from the two age groups. In the junior and senior divisions of, US$3,000, $1,500 and $1,000 will be presented, respectively.  The participating schools will also be given similar awards.

In addition, first place winners from each age category along with their class, will be invited to attend an exclusive event in their respective destination. The FCCA will work with the Ministry of Tourism to coordinate these functions.

For further information regarding the contest may be obtained from Sharon Trotman or Marsha Armstrong at the Ministry of Tourism, at 430-7500.
