The Honorable Prime Minister Baldwyn Spencer and Martha Watkins Gilkes were recently honored as "Ambassador for the Planet" by the Wyland Foundation, presented personally by WYLAND during his recent trip to Antigua to paint the WYLAND MARINE MURAL.
The award is intended to recognize people in various fields who have shown extraordinary interest in promoting conservation awareness and protecting our blue planet. "What the awards are all about are individuals who have made a large effort to protect and preserve our planet's resources," Wyland commented.
The Prime Minister was honored for his efforts to protect the marine environment around Antigua and Barbuda. As one of a select group of proactive and inspiring people, Martha was chosen based on her outstanding dedication to protect the marine environment and inspiring the youth of Antigua through the arts as part of the WYLAND MARINE MURAL project.
The Wyland Foundation encourages "environmental awareness through education programs, life-size public arts projects, and community events."
Fellow award winners include Time Magazine's "Hero for the Planet" Dr. Sylvia Earle as well as Nobel Peace Prize recipient, former Vice President of the United States, Al Gore. Martha received her award at the Official dedication and blessing of the WYLAND MARINE MURAL at the YASCO Wall on May 28th.
