ANTIGUA – WHAT A WONDERFUL PLACE Thursday 9th June 2011
Last week we had a marvelous boost to our faith in the great side to human nature.
Whilst going into the Dockyard in English Harbour on the number 24 bus from Liberta, I lost an envelope containing my passport – I am a visitor from England – a bank savings book and some cash I was about to deposit. I thought all was lost and I reported it to the Police and contacted the British High Commission in Barbados immediately, but I did not reckon on the kindness and integrity of the Antiguan people. That same evening the staff at Trappas Restaurant & Bar in English Harbour, run by my son and daughter-in-law, were overheard talking about my disaster; somehow this information reached the ears of the driver of that number 24 bus and he immediately searched the bus and found my envelope. He then handed it to my son at Trappas the next day, so I would like to publically thank Mr ‘Glasses’ Antony, the driver of that number 24 bus for his public spiritedness and honesty and to say how nice it was to meet him and his wife a couple of days later to do so in person.
