EAG PARTICIPATES IN COASTAL CLEAN-UP Sunday 6th October 2013
 September 21, 2013 was International Coastal Clean-up Day. Many businesses, organisations, groups and individuals participated in efforts to clean up Antigua's coastlines and help return it to its natural beauty.
The Environmental Awareness Group reported on its participation:
'The EAG focussed on an area on the eastern side of Antigua - Fanny's Cove - which is near Devil's Bridge. This cove is bordered by mangroves and a small beach which have fallen victim to both marine and land waste.
The EAG supplied garbage bags and gloves and helped return a spotlight to the international problem of marine debris while continuing the appeal to all residents to dispose of waste in the appropriate places.
Across appxoimately 0.5 kilometres (third of a mile) of coastline at Fanny's Cove, the EAG collected 55 bags of trash containing over 1,400 bottles, approximately 70 per cent of these being plastic.'
Let's not wait until the next International Coastal Clean-up Day to once again clean up our coastline. Let's keep it clean all year round and remember to carry an extra garbage bag with you to pick up any trash on your next visit to the coastline. If everyone picks up one bag of trash on every visit, Antigua's coastlines will be pristine!
