Back to Environmental Awareness Group (EAG)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Thursday 20th October 2011

The award-winning Offshore Islands Conservation Programme (OICP) was co-founded by the Environmental Awareness Group, Government of Antigua, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, Fauna & Flora International and Island Resources Foundation with the vision of “Healthy, functioning coastal ecosystems that are sustainably managed for the conservation of native wildlife and for the benefit of local people.”

Antigua and Barbuda’s offshore islands and their surrounding reefs and mangroves encompass more than 30 square miles. They form vital refuges for many rare and important species, including the Critically Endangered Antiguan Racer (Alsophis antiguae), the Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), and the Vulnerable West Indian Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna arborea). Further information about the OICP and the area can be found on Eco index; Fauna and Flora Internationl and EAG website.

The OICP is seeking a passionate individual to assist with environmental education and conservation work in Antigua and Barbuda for approximately 6 months, based at the Environmental Awareness Group office in St John's, Antigua.  Tasks will include wildlife surveys, invasive species monitoring, organizing field trips for stakeholders and school children, developing education materials, and providing administrative support to the Project Coordinator. The volunteer should be prepared to work long hours, work on islands with rugged terrain, and also be available to work on weekends if necessary.

To find out more about this post and eligibility criteria, please write to the Environmental Awareness Group eag@candw.ag to request an information pack (please mark the Subject line "OICP Volunteer"). The closing date for applications is 31st October 2011 and the successful candidate will begin work as soon as possible.
