JUDGING OF TROUPES & GROUPES AND LAST LAP NOW POSTPONED - DATE TBC Tuesday 2nd August 2011
Incessant rainfall brought on by Tropical Storm Emily, which passed south of Antigua & Barbuda last night has forced the postponement of the carnival judging of troupes and groups and last lap. Carnival Development Committee, CDC, Chairman Vaughn Walter announced the delay early this afternoon, following consultation with the prime minister, national security minister, the culture minister, and mas association. He explained that public safety was at the heart of their decision.
“You know you have all these electronic bands that are playing. We don’t want anybody being electrocuted with this weather,” he stated. after initially stating “The news is that the parade will now take place this coming Sunday starting off at the same time from the Multi-Purpose Centre", latest news comes to light that the CDC is still reviewing the date, and will confirm it today,
The judging of troupes and groups was originally scheduled for Monday afternoon, but it was pushed back because of heavy downpour though some mas players braved the weather. Many again took to the streets yesterday morning after the CDC’s initial announcement that the parade would proceed as planned.
We will update you once we have further news on the date the parades and judging will now take place. Click here for all News and Specials for Antigua Carnival
