INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES Monday 26th October 2020

Theme for IDPD 2020: "Building Back Better: Toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World."
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is annually observed on December 3rd and the observance of IDPD aims to promote an understanding of disability issues; mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities; seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the full and equal integration and participation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life; and to take action for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society and development.
The main programme of the observance of the IDPD at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in Manhattan, New York will include the Opening, panel discussions and cultural events. Member States, civil society organizations and the private sector are welcome to organize their own events to celebrate the IDPD to raise awareness and promote the rights and perspectives of persons with disabilities around the world.
This year, the IDPD 2020 will be commemorated throughout the week of 30 November–4 December in conjunction with the 13th Session of the Conference of States Parties (COSP13) to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). This year’s observance will most likely be the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) reading a statement right before the Opening of the COSP13 on 30 November 2020.
