MARINE EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP Wednesday 28th February 2024
Team Ocean Grown, the female pairs ocean rowing record holders, are pleased to announce the Bridges Over Water Scholarship fund, to provide careers in the maritime sector for young adults who aged out of foster care in North America & Caribbean nations. With many ties to Antigua, Team OG will extend two of these scholarships for Antiguans from adverse familial backgrounds, recognizing that social services systems are less defined than in mainland countries.
Career opportunities are wide ranging, from bridge and deck operations, engineering, interior and galley, both domestic and internationally. Scholarship recipients will undergo career counselling to gain an understanding of the many available options. Next, recipients are paired with an industry mentor, and embark on a custom training plan with the assistance of our educational partners. Finally, job placement assistance begins an exciting new adventure.
The BOW program is looking to utilize the exceptional tradition of mentorship within seafaring to foster long term career success and act as a catalyst for meaningful personal development and generational change. With assistance from our educational partners such as The Crew Academy, Northeast Keelboat Alliance, OnDeck Antigus and She of the Sea, our scholarship recipients have an exceptional opportunity to break down barriers and become the industry leaders of tomorrow.
Application are currently open to Antiguan young adults aged 19 to 30 who either grew up in a social services system, or adverse familial backgrounds. Candidates must be able to pass a seafarers medical, as this is a mandatory requirement of any commercial vessel. Applications can be found at www.oceangrown.co/mission or through our social media links at Team Ocean Grown. Applications close May 12, 2024. Join us for a lifechanging adventure!
