“Simply the best” --- Reviewed on May 20th, 2014
We have just enjoyed a couple of happy weeks at Blue Waters and confirm that the excellent Tripadvisor guest reviews are very accurate.
Where some pre-May reviews were critical of the food, we're at a loss to understand why as our experience was sustained high quality cuisine at all times during our stay. The property is splendid and well maintained, along with the atmosphere set by the interesting and friendly staff, the clean white beach, the ever available sun loungers and choice of pools, interesting cocktails, the layout of relaxing areas and patios for al-fresco eating and all contained in the most beautiful tropical gardens. The flora is impressive and colourful, attracting many varieties of birds - including more humming birds than I have previously seen combined over many stays in the Caribbean. We enjoyed watching a pair of Pelicans on regular patrol from their nest in the neighbouring bay, along with handsome gulls and the occasional frigate bird, all on fishing expeditions in the coastal waters. The location is sheltered from the Atlantic swells, being just at the Caribbean coastline starting point such that many days presented astonishing clear calm waters with large areas of turquoise colour from the white sand seabed below. The seabed at the beach is rock free and smooth, with some areas of sea plants and plenty of small fish to view. You can get closer to the action by using the Hoby Cats and Kayaks available on the beach, with rescue supervision at hand in case of need.
We saw a number of breaching and flying fish out to sea and even on one evening a sizeable fish 'walking' on its tail in the gently floodlit waters beneath The Cove restaurant.
There were a number of weddings during our stay, but they are held way out on a promentory in a gazebo at its point above the sea, so they don't impose on the resort at all. A notable feature of the resort is the convivial atmosphere engendered by the way the property is laid out and no doubt by the type of mostly sociable, mostly British, guests attracted. Blue Waters is not a place where loud music or noisy activities take place - it is all rather more subtle, but never dull. Most evenings had entertainment during and after dinner, ranging from excellent steel drums to Soca through western dance music.
Each day concludes with a magnificent sunset best seen from Veronica's Bar by one of the pools. We had much fun and shared humour with many of the staff including lively Pearl, refined Maudrina, delightful Tremayn, fun loving Nikki and the characterful Carolyn (of Carolyn's Bar by the sea pool) and we appreciated the attentiveness of deputy manager Margaret. If I say 'Roly Poly and Macaroni', they'll know who I am).
Blue Waters is a refined and happy place to be and I'm sure we'll be back.
Room Tip: “We stayed in a Deluxe Beachfront room on the upper floor. It was spacious with good views and welcome air conditioning” (Travelnick)
