The Junior Finance Associate is responsible for supporting the financial accounting and reporting needs of an assigned portfolio of territories, ensuring the accurate recording of financial transactions, reconciling general ledger accounts, and maintaining financial schedules to support both internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent will act as the primary point of contact for accounting-related matters within their portfolio and will work closely with other members of the Accounting and Finance team to ensure timely, efficient, and compliant financial operations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Support the cashiering function, ensuring the integrity of the daily cash book and system entries, and provide training to cashiers where required.
- Review daily cash receipts, cheque listings, end-of-day reports, and other financial documents.
- Prepare journal entries to record business transactions in the accounting system in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring alignment with reporting standards.
- Prepare and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts, including but not limited to cash and bank balances, commissions payable, accounts receivable, taxes payable, claims suspense, and accounts receivable suspense.
- Deliver high-quality reconciliations and financial reports according to established internal and external deadlines.
- Assist with the preparation and execution of financial audits and other internal or external reviews by compiling necessary documentation and addressing queries.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field OR a minimum of three (3) years of relevant accounting experience in a similar role.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles.
- Familiarity with financial reporting standards.
- Ability to work independently, manage time well, and prioritize tasks.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills.
- High level of personal accountability.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (particularly data manipulation features and tools).
