ABYWA ELECTS NEW EXECUTIVE

English Harbour – St. Pauls: Amidst heightened concerns about security for its members and the distribution of jobs to professionals in the yachting industry - new members were elected to the executive of the Antigua & Barbuda Yacht Workers Association (A.B.Y.W.A), during its annual general meeting, Wednesday night.

Associate member Ivor Jackson presided over the election process, which took place at the Catamaran Hotel & Restaurant.
 
Members turned out in their numbers to elect executives to the eight (8) positions on the board.
 
Re-elected to the post of president of the A.B.Y.W.A for the third consecutive year was Stephen Samuel, Edward Piper was elected vice president,  Anslem Ralph was elected treasurer for the second consecutive year, Denroy Burlaigh was elected secretary and four ordinary members Selwyn Mark, Glenroy Francis , Lyndon Pamphil,and Theodore Barnes were elected to complete the executive.
 
Samuel thanked the members of the association for their confidence in his leadership, and urged members to unite and support the initiatives planned to move the association forward.
 
As the newly re-elected president Samuel has placed on his priority list the issues related to security, training and capacity building particularly that of utilizing environmentally friendly products as well as fundraisers to assist members in need of medical assistance.
 
Meanwhile, Samuel welcome the intervention of the Minister of National Security and Labour Dr. Errol Cort, who on Wednesday convened an meeting to address the issue security related matters and that of illegal workers that has the potential of damaging  the fragile industry.
 
Another meeting is being planned for March 26th, with all the stakeholders.
