ROTARY CLUB OF ANTIGUA MAKES A COMFORTABLE DONATION TO THE SUNSHINE HOME FOR GIRLS
Tuesday 27th May 2025
The Rotary Club of Antigua is proud to announce a generous donation of six bunk beds to the Sunshine Home for Girls, allowing the home to comfortably accommodate 12 young girls.
The donation was made possible through a partnership with the Townhouse Mega Store, which provided a significant discount to facilitate the contribution. “We are delighted to collaborate with Townhouse Mega Store in making a positive impact on the lives of these young ladies,” said Sherrie-Ann Brazier, President of the Rotary Club of Antigua. She continued that, “every child deserves a safe and comfortable place to call home, and we are committed to doing our part to help provide that.”
This most recent project underscores the Club’s ongoing commitment to supporting the well-being and development of vulnerable youth in our community.
Over the past 11 months, the Rotary Club of Antigua has engaged in initiatives geared towards developing the physical, mental and social capacities of the girls at the Sunshine Home. These activities also include donations of laptops, pressure cookers, frying pans, scientific calculators, an iron, a toaster, Christmas trees, and Christmas gifts.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Club hosted a Vision Board Day, where women of the Rotary Club were matched with the girls of the Sunshine Home based on their future career aspirations. This empowering event aimed to inspire the girls and foster a sense of hope and possibility.
In addition, the Club has partnered with Ms. Koren Norton to develop a counseling program tailored for the residents of the Sunshine Home for Girls. The sessions will focus on building self-esteem, promoting personal empowerment, managing conflict effectively, and raising awareness about mental health.
Major Violet Ezeh, the new administrator of the Sunshine Home is thrilled to collaborate with the Rotary of Antigua. “The strength of the Rotary Club as a caring group of professionals is just the example that the girls need see. Our ongoing relationship helps to inspire them to work hard to set and achieve their personal goals”, remarked Major Ezeh.
The Rotary Club of Antigua remains dedicated to making a meaningful difference within the community. Acts of kindness such as these are made possible through donations made to the club and the Club’s annual major fundraiser, the Colours fete.
