UNDER 14 CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS Wednesday 5th March 2014
The Dr. Jammula & Associates 14 and Under Championships came to a close on a special day “WORLD TENNIS DAY”. A day when the world of tennis engaged in some form of tennis activity, a day when children and adults learn that tennis can be fun and a way to stay healthy.
The courts of the Halcyon by Rex Resorts came to life as the 14 & Under main draw matches served off to see who would be the boys and girls champion. Emotions flew high as it came right down to the final battle.
The girl’s finals brought together two worthy adversaries Shereese Henry and Ashley Bersma. Henry got the better of Bersma in straight sets taking the girls championship 6-1, 6-3. Bersma secured her spot in the finals with her defeat of Chante Francis. Francis took the first set 6-2 but the more determined Bersma took the second and third set 6-3, 6-3 score (Bersma 2-6, 6-3,6-3); Henry synched her finals spot defeating Ramonia Tomlinson in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.
Cordell “CJ” Williams Jr. took the boys championship with his defeat of the tournaments #2 seed Frankie Smith in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Both Williams Jr. and Smith clinched their semi finals matches to secure their spot in the finals. Williams jr. defeated Justice Christopher 6-1, 6-0 while Smith got the better of Chad Joseph ousting him 6-3, 7-5.
The competitiveness displayed by our junior players and their desire to win, encourages us that these juniors have a bright future in this disciplined sport. The ABTA thanks Dr. Jammula & Associates for their support, seeing the need for continued junior development in our sport.
This patronage by Dr. Jammula & Associates heeded the call and the ABTA is proud to announce that another business has stepped up in support of the upcoming Jr. Doubles Challenge which serves off 15th March, 2014.
