XXII COPA MERENGUE: DAY 2 Monday 29th July 2013
As the under 14 and under 18 qualifiers wind down at East Park Tennis Centre, team Antigua had another day of mixed results.
Cordell Williams Jr. in the first of his two matches scheduled yesterday came up against Carlos Alvarez (DOM), though Williams lost, by the very score line it can be said that he put up a fight. Williams lost the first set in a tie break 4-5 (4-7) but bounced back in set two 5-4 (10-8) but this match was not to be as his opponent Alvarez took the third set tie break 7-5.
In his second match of the day and his final round robin match Cordell Williams Jr. defeated his opponent Anthony Cabas (DOM) in straight sets 4-1, 4-1.
Justin Marcano newcomer to international competition, today played two of his final three round robin qualifiers today. In his first match of the day Marcano came up against Rengifo Giuliano (USA) going down in straight sets 1-4, 0-4.
In match no. 2 Marcano met another worthy opponent in that of Kevin Yarzagaray (ARU) suffering a loss 0-4, 0-4. Justin will play his final round robin match tomorrow when he will meet Nick Hardt (DOM).
Both Cordell William Jr. and Justin Marcano will then await their fate, be it Main Draw or the Consolation Draw.
The Under 18 main draw is out and both D'Jeri Raymond and Noah Peters are scheduled to play tomorrow; Raymond will play D. Sampieri Rodriguez (MEX) while Peters will meet Rebeca Reyes (GUA).
