FLUSHING, NY- On Wednesday, September 19th, the women's tennis team played host to the Dolphins of CSI. The match lasted for 4 hours, with the Hawks coming out on top, 7-2. With the win, the Hawks record improves to 2-2 while the Dolphins drop to 2-4.
The third doubles team of sophomore
Stephanie Ahwireng and freshman Angelina Usherenko were the first off the court, dismantling the Dolphins 8-0. At first doubles, junior
Shena Joseph and sophomore
Gina Yeo bested CSI's Ilona Stoko and Jean Baak 8-3. The Dolphins were able to take second doubles with a score of 8-5, beating out sophomore's
Caroline Kaleda and
Beth Chapnick.
In singles plays, CSI's Baak took out Kaelda in 6-0, 6-3 score at third singles, making it 2-2 battle. Chapnick revenged her loss at doubles to get the win at sixth singles, winning 6-0, 6-2, while Usherenko dominated at fifth singles 6-0, 6-0. With a 4-2 lead, the Hunter needed one more point to win the match. The remaining matches were 1st, 2nd, and 4th singles where all three matches went into a third set. Junior
Shena Joseph lost the first set of her match 3-6, but bounced back to take the 2nd and 3rd 6-3, 6-3, giving the Hawks their first CUNY win of the season. Yeo and Ahwireng both won their matches in third sets, with Yeo winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, while Ahwireng went into a super third set tie breaker winning it 10-6.
The Hawks are back on the court this weekend, when Joseph travel's to Geneva, NY to compete in ITA's. The team is back in action when they travel to play CCNY on Friday, September 28th in a conference match-up
