ELVIN & RAYMOND ADVANCE TO ROUND 2 IN TOBAGO ITF Tuesday 21st August 2012

The Tobago ITF Jr. Tournament commenced on Monday in Scarborough Tobago, with over 100 athletes all corners of the globe. The qualifying leg of the tournament started on Saturday 18th, 2012 with both under 14 and under 18 athletes fighting for a spot in the main draw.
Today was a successful day for the only Antiguan athletes competing in this tournament; D'Jeri Raymond and Shakir Elvin.
Under 18's
Shakir Elvin eliminated Trinidadian Gianluc Robinson in straight sets 6-1. 6-4. Elvin will today face off with the #4 seed I Beltramo (ITA) in his bid for a quarterfinals spot.
D'Jeri Raymond ousted Tobagan Dominique Coutain also in straight set 6-2, 6-0. Raymond will meet the #7 seed Elizabeth Southerland (USA) in her bid for a quarterfinals spot.
Doubles competition commences today as well with Shakir Elvin teaming up with Sinan Orhon of Turkey while D'Jeri Raymond teams up with Julia D'Auvergne of St. Lucia.

The ABTA who provided assistance, Raeburn Generator Services who helped to make these tournaments possible for D'Jeri Raymond, The Ministry of Sports who allowed for tax exemptions on the tickets and last but not least the parents who saw it fitting for their children to compete in these prestigious events and providing the funding for them to do so.
