ELVIN EARNS FIRST RANKING POINTS Friday 10th August 2012
Yesterday (9 Aug 2012) was a day of positives for team Antigua in the CoCo Cola LCA Jr ournament. In the Under 18 doubles competition, Shakir Elvin and his doubles Partner Matthew Hutchinson of Barbados advances to the doubles quarter finals after taking down the doubles #4 seed oftop ranked junior player Gian Issa of Suriname & his doubles partner Canadian Simon Cote 4-6, 7-5, (12-10).
More success in doubles as D'Jeri Raymond and her doubles partner Bahamian Dominique Mortier advances to the doubles quarterfinals after ousting Barbadian Melana Lopez & her doubles partner Amanda Soo Ping Chow of Trinidad 7-6(2),2-6 (10-8) .
In the Under 14 competition success came for Antigua's Cordell Williams jr who took the boys consolation competition after defeating Alexander Cyrus of St. Vincent in the finals 4-1, 4-1; Williams jr booked his spot in the finals after defeating De Jennie Simmons(VIN) in the semi finals 4-0, 4-0.
Jessica Isaac also made some waves today as she too advanced to the finals. Isaac booked her spot in the the singles finals after defeating Jayda Hunte of St. Lucia in the semi finals 6-1, 6-0. Isaac fell short of taking the singles title as she was taken down by Jaime Lewis of Barbados losing 1-6, 0-6.
The road has been rocky for our athletes but we can say today maked positives for these athletes young careers. The ABTA continues to thank the NOC and the parents of these athletes who saw the need for these competitions and deciding to invest in their future.
