SHAKIR WINS HIS FIRST MATCH IN JITC Monday 30th July 2012
In his first match of the day, Elvin easily defeated Roberto Aviles of Honduras 4-0, 4-2; he then went to defeat Jermaine Le Grand of Aruba 4-1, 5-3.The members of out under 14 team soon learned what it takes to be counted in the hard court matches.
It was not the best of days for these young players judging from the statistics but the experience they will gain here will truly help with their development. The first match on court was D’jeri Raymond. Raymond was ousted by Fatima Murphy of Honduras. In three sets 5-3, 1-4 (10-6). Next on the court was Jessica Isaac who came up against Gabriella Donaldson of Bahamas, losing 4-2, 4-2.
Soon Justice Christopher came up against Alvaro Escobar (GUA), losing 4-0, 4-0. In the afternoon sessions Jessica Isaac met Andrea Perez (MEX) going down in straight sets, 4-0, 4-1. Cordell Williams, Jr. lost to Sebastian Quiroz (CRC) 4-1, 4-0. Justice Christopher in his second match went down to Cristian Zeron (HON) 4-0, 4-0.
And the final match of the day for team Antigua was Cordell Williams Jr. against Luis Anibal Marcano (BON). Though some brilliant tennis was played, Williams was defeated 4-0, 4-2. This tournament continues through to Saturday, August 4th.
The team is receiving much encouragement from captain Erica Williams as they move on to the next round of competition.
