RAYMOND CLAIMS THE SINGLES AND DOUBLES GIRLS U14 TITLE Thursday 5th July 2012
Yet another scorching hot day at the Tihta Aruba Tournament brought mixed results from our Antiguan players remaining in the tournament.
Jody Maginley & his doubles partner Kenta Kurita (Japan) who booked their quarterfinals spot on Day 2 of the TIHTA Aruba tournament was today ousted by the #4 seeded doubles team of Farzin Danny Amiri (USA)/Rogelio Siller (MEX) 6-4, 6-3
Victory, however, came today for Under 14 player D'Jeri Raymond who successfully took both the Singles and Doubles title. In the girls singles finals Raymond defeated the #2 seed Ashley Poulina(ARU) in three sets 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-1 ; The doubles competition reaped similar rewards for #1 seeded doubles team Raymond & doubles partner Gina Van Der Veen (ARU) who defeated Ashley Poulina(ARU) / Zina Riguard (Curacao) in straight sets 6-4, 7-5
The showing made by all Antiguan competitors in this tournament was commendable and as they continue to move from tournament to tournament we encourage them to continue to give their training 110%; only through hard work can they achieve greatness. These athletes will move on to the ITF Jamaica tournament which commences on July 14th, 2012.
The ABTA thanks Alicia Williams who accompanied the Antiguan based players, offering the much needed support for practice sessions and overall management of our juniors. We also thank all the family and friends who supported these juniors in their endeavour to compete in this tournament. Click here for all News and Specials for Antigua & Barbuda Tennis Association
