ANTIGUAN BASE TENNIS PLAYERS START SUMMER TOURNAMENTS Friday 29th June 2012
June commences the ITF (International Tennis Tournament) tournaments within the Caribbean region. This is an opportunity for juniors both under 14 and under 18 to earn both COTECC (Confederation of tennis in Central America & the Caribbean) and ITF ranking points. Though these tournaments take place in the Caribbean Region and the Netherland Antilles they draw athletes from all over the globe whose sole aim is to earn those precious ranking points.
Our juniors will compete in a selection of grade four and grade five tournaments starting off with The Junkanoo Bowl in the Bahamas currently in progress. Two of our juniors, Kyle Joseph and Jody Maginley are competing in this tournament which will come to a close on Saturday, June 30, 2012. Though both players fail to make the cut in the singles qualifying matches they both moved on to contest the doubles competition, with Kyle Joseph and his doubles partne Shaquille Taylor (BAH) moving to the quarterfinals.
These players will then move on to the TIHTA Aruba tournament, where they will meet with their country mates Noah Peters and D’Jeri Raymond (based in Antigua) who are slated to leave Antigua on Friday, June 29, 2012. These juniors will have quite an active summer as they will be competing in the ITF Jamaica, Copa Merengue in Dominican Republic, Coco Cola ITF St. Lucia, SVG ITF juniors and Tobago ITF which ends the summers tournament planned by the ITF in the our region.
The ABTA encourages our athletes to do their best as they move from tournament to tournament. We Would like to thank the parents and family members of these players who had to sacrifice to give them the opportunities they now have.
