ANTIGUA & BARBUDA TENNIS ASSOCIATION HOSTS PLAY AND STAY TENNIS WORKSHOP Thursday 28th June 2012
As the Antigua & Barbuda Tennis Association (ABTA) continues in its effort to promote Tennis in the schools through its STI (School Tennis Initiative) programme a Play & Stay Workshop was held yesterday 26th June 2012- the second one of its kind for 2012.
This workshop was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, sports and youth affairs in preparation for the new school year with an aim to have a vibrant schools tennis programme moving forward.
The workshop which had an attendance of over 20 Physical Education Teachers was facilitated by Coach Cordell Williams and Richard Elien Tennis Coordinator in the Ministry of Sports at the Halcyon Tennis club courts.
The STI programme initiated by the ITF (International Tennis Federation ) is aimed at identifying talented Youngsters for follow-up programmes, to develop the school teachers education in tennis in order to Encourage more varied and fun physical education lessons and to contribute to the educational Development of children at school by building motor skills and self-confidence.
The new physical education teachers who also worked on the physical parts of the game were given the skills to aid them in moving forward with their PE programme come September2012.
