ABTA DONATES TO CHARITY Friday 8th June 2012
In the words of Ann Jonas Planning Coordinator in the Ministry of Sports, " Pride" is what was felt by the ABTA today when the juniors of the Halcyon Tennis Club under the leadership of Ms. Alicia Williams presented the Amazing Grace Foundation with a donation of food items and toiletries.
The softer side of tennis was seen through the eyes of these junior tennis players, who over the past month have been on a drive to contribute as well as collect dry goods to donate to one of Antigua's deserving charities; The Amazing Grace Foundation. It was important to Ms. Williams to encourage her peers to understand and know that nothing comes for free and to also know that when you get support, it is necessary to find a way to say thank you.
This drive embraced not only all the members of the Halcyon Tennis Club but 1st Choice Supermarket and its patrons, Caribs Seas and First Caribbean who were all helpful by allowing the juniors to place their donation boxes in their establishments; a special thank you to 1st Choice who welcomed these young players in front of their supermarket.
Ms. Williams the manager of the foundation expressed her thank you for the donation but was especially happy to know that these young people took on this project and saw it through. She thought that the donation was timely and saw these items going a long way to assist the residents of the Amazing Grace Foundation.
A special thank you to Mrs. Ann Jonas and Mervin Richards for representing the Ministry of Sports, Cordell Williams-ABTA, Alice Williams - Halcyon Tennis Club, Mrs.Alicia Williams, Cordell Williams jr, D'Jeri Raymond and Noah Peter-Halcyon Juniors, Sheena Joseph and Renee Henry - collegiate members and Carlton Bedminster for attending the presentation.
We also thank Ms. Danielle Bryron who assisted with this drive.
This is only the beginning......... the next project is already in the planning stage and we encourage Antigua to support these young people as they find ways of saying thanks.
