13 & UNDER CARIBBEAN DEVELOPMENT CHAMPIONSHIPS CONCLUDES Friday 9th September 2011
The Antigua & Barbuda Tennis Association is proud to announce the completion of its participation in the annual ITF 13 & Under Caribbean Development Championships which took place in Suriname August 28th – September 3rd, 2011.
This tournament represents a significant place in the calendar of regional tournaments as it is the only developmental Tennis tournament for this critical age group in the region.
Representing Antigua & Barbuda were junior tennis players Cordell Williams jr, Jevannie Ambrose and D’Jeri Raymond. Training coach in Antigua was Mr. Cordell Williams and travelling coach was Mr. David ‘Jerry’ Williams.
Players were selected based on their national ranking, performance throughout the summer tour and age requirement.
D’Jeri Raymond placed first in the girls competition which included 15 competitors. Jevannie Ambrose placed 8th after losing in the quarterfinals to eventual winner from Aruba and Cordell Williams jr the youngest competitor placing 10th in the boys competition in a field of 27. In the doubles competition Antiguan girl winner and the boys quarterfinals.
Team Antigua & Barbuda performed credibly in placing 3rd in a field of fourteen countries. This was an improvement from last year’s 9th place finish.
The tournament is supported by the Grand Slam Development Fund and administered by the ITF regional body, Cotecc. Countries included were Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Guyana, Jamaica, Netherland Antilles, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago and host Suriname.
The Antigua and Barbuda Tennis Association is pleased with the national teams improved results and look forward to continued improvement in the coming years.

We would also like to thank Coach Cordell Williams and travelling Coach David ‘Jerry’ Williams for volunteering their time for this worthwhile effort.
